KPop Ssaem — Privacy Policy

KPop Ssaem ("the extension") helps you learn Korean by displaying time-synced lyrics, romanization, and translations next to music videos. This policy explains what information the extension handles. The short version: we do not collect, store, or sell any personal data. The extension has no analytics, no tracking, and no server of our own.

Data stored on your device

The extension saves the following locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API, and nowhere else:

• Your display settings (romanization on/off, translation language, font size)
• Lyrics and timing offsets you load or adjust, saved per video so they persist between visits
• Cached translations, so the same lines are not re-translated

This data never leaves your device, is not visible to us, and is removed if you uninstall the extension or clear extension data.

Network requests the extension makes

To do its job, the extension contacts two third-party services. Requests are made only in direct response to your activity:

• lrclib.net — when you open a video or search for lyrics, the song title/artist text (derived from the video title or typed by you) is sent to lrclib.net to find matching synced lyrics.
• translate.googleapis.com — only if you switch translation on, the lyric lines are sent to Google Translate to obtain translations. No translation requests are made while the feature is off.

Romanization (Hangul → Latin letters) is computed entirely on your device and requires no network request. Neither request includes your identity, browsing history, or any account information. These services receive only the song/lyric text needed to answer the request, along with standard technical information any web server receives (such as IP address). Their own privacy policies govern their handling of requests: lrclib.net, Google.

What we do NOT do

• No collection of personal information, browsing history, or watch history
• No analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking of any kind
• No advertising networks, and nothing is injected into web pages beyond the extension's own lyrics panel
• No selling, sharing, or transferring of data to anyone — we never see your data in the first place

Donations

The extension's panel may show an optional donation link. Clicking it simply opens the payment provider's website in a new tab; any payment is handled entirely by that provider under its own terms and privacy policy. The extension itself processes no payment information.

Permissions explained

• storage — to save your settings and lyrics locally
• activeTab — so clicking the toolbar icon can turn the panel on or off on the current tab
• lrclib.net host access — to fetch community-synced lyrics
• translate.googleapis.com host access — to fetch translations when you enable them
• Access to youtube.com pages — to display the lyrics panel next to the video you are watching

Children's privacy

The extension does not collect data from anyone, including children, and contains no content targeted at children.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the extension changes how data is handled (for example, adding an optional account feature), this policy will be updated and the effective date above revised before that version is released.
